50 Years of Rainbow Wahine Athletics

The University of Hawai‘i Athletics Department is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Rainbow Wahine athletics.

The first two Wahine teams at UH Mānoa began in 1972 with volleyball and track & field. Basketball and golf were added in 1974 when the women joined the men in the NCAA. By 1976, there were a total of eight women’s sports. The rest is history.

Women’s sports have flourished through the past 50 years winning countless conference championships, including four in the current year in Wahine volleyball, basketball, golf and water polo.

We jump start this milestone on September 1 with Wahine on the Rise – Day of Giving campaign. This significant day marks the home opener for Rainbow Wahine Volleyball, our first and most storied women’s program.

Please join us in celebration and donation to provide continued support to the success of our female student-athletes at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
