Performing since 2014, the Nāulu Winds of UH West Oʻahu is Hawaiʻi’s largest community music ensemble of more than 100 university and high school students and community musicians of diverse professions, backgrounds, and ages. This band was formed to create a space for instrumentalists of all skill levels who want to continue making music.
We are thrilled to share that the Nāulu Winds has been invited to perform at The Midwest Clinic in Chicago this December—a rare and high honor that showcases the talent and dedication of our students and community members on an international stage. This clinic is the premiere convening of band and orchestra musicians and educators and includes 18,000 participants. This is an invaluable opportunity for our members to learn from and perform alongside some of the best in the field.
The Nāulu Winds has secured one of only two performance slots allocated to community ensembles, and this performance in December will be the second occasion a Hawai‘i ensemble has played in this conference in its 78-year history.
We need your help to make this journey possible! With your support, we’ll be able to showcase the rich music of our islands — including a new arrangement of Heha Waipi‘o and a new composition, Haleakalā Praeludium, E Ala Ē: Arise and Awaken, Movement I. Your contribution means our musicians can also engage in learning sessions, take in masterful performances, and expand their musical and personal horizons..
Your gift will go directly toward travel expenses and other essential costs to ensure every band member can participate fully in this life-changing event. Join us in supporting the future of music and sending our Nāulu Winds to the Windy City. Together, we can make their dream a reality!
